After having competed in a number of aerobatic aircraft starting in ’78 and building his own Pitts S-1 which he podiumed with, Walter Extra decides to design a high-performance monoplane with enhanced performance, reduced weight, and an airframe specifically designed for the forces exerted during competition aerobatics. Leveraging his mechanical engineering background, Walter places emphasis on the structural development of the fuselage after witnessing various failures of peers’ aircraft.
