The prototype Extra 300S (D-ESEW) makes its debut, a single seat derivative of the Extra 300, the Extra 300S combines all of the best features of the preceding Extra Aircraft into a single high performance competition monoplane. A combination of light weight, a 300hp Lycoming six cylinder engine, and unparalleled control harmony, the Extra 300S becomes a formidable competitor on the regional, national, and world contest stages.
The Extra 300S has the wing lowered eight inches to provide better ground visibility, the roll-rate increases to approximately 400 degrees per second, and many new features improve the control feel and ergonomics for the pilot for enhanced competition performance.
After this anxiously awaited model was introduced in March 1992, three of the four existing production aircraft were flown in the World Championship that July, with Peter Besenyei placing in the top ten. A total of thirty-four (34) Extra 300S’s were manufactured between ’92 and ’06.
Patty Wagstaff delivers an unparalleled repeat performance at the U.S. National Aerobatic Championship winning the Unlimited title once again with her Extra 260. This becomes the sixth U.S. National Unlimited title for an Extra Aircraft.
